Two new sites up

Couple of new sites up online: firstly, Scholastic Book Clubs.

I built this based on designs by clear:left. I created the new site Information Architecture, aiming to improve the buying and checkout procedure, whilst aiming to keep within the existing business logic. Unfortunately you need to log in as a school to see the vast majority of the content, but the HTML prototype is available here.

It incorporates your usual accessible valid XHTML and some jQuery powered AJAX on the open order form.

The second site, again for Scholastic, is a transferring of an existing paper magazine "Read me" to Movable Type, with a complete design - typographically based, aiming to keep the feel of the existing publication.

The other challenge here was to make the design comply to Movable Type's existing framework, but also make it easy to update, for staff not familiar with HTML.

Hi Dan, great work! Out of interest, did you weigh up using movable type versus wordpress?

  2. Avatar Dan said about 18 hours later:

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for the compliment! Much appreciated. To be honest, I’ve had no real experience of working with wordpress templates - the Movable Type was a fait accompli when I got to the project: I had to do a lot of research and dogwork in the background to boil the template down to something non-techies could work with, especially as the documentation was sketchy for the latest version.

It’s one of the nicer blogging tools I’ve worked with, though, and works well as a CMS, if you can tame the business logic of the project to fit the (admittedly wide) capabilities of Movable Type.

    Thanks again!
